I have always dreamed of having my own school. I haven’t a clue what the specifics would look like, but I can tell you that it doesn’t resemble the schools of today. Our schools should be the most inspiring places in our world. I can tell you from my experience as a student AND as a teacher that there are large percentages of students not at all inspired. Most especially in the lower socio-economic neighborhoods. We must find ways to channel these kids’ energy in a different way. We aren’t even coming close to helping the majority of students reach their full potential. Everything has to change. Education is shifting and that is a good thing. We need to stop fighting it and instead embrace it. I cannot wait to see my old students at my first public speaking engagement. They are all juniors and seniors now and I eagerly await to chance to reconnect with some of them and pick their brains a bit. All in due time.
