Dance Gym

8054105-silhouette-people-party-danceThis was my very first business idea that came to me mid-way through my healing year in Michigan.  I cannot express how much dancing helped me heal.  I rocked out in my little bedroom in my mom’s home.  It was awesome!  I hadn’t let down my inhibitions to dance like that since 8th grade.  And it was the most amazing, freeing, enjoyable experience each and every time.

One album in particular, (Shock Value II by Timbaland) had me moving like crazy.  I began wearing my heart rate monitor to see how many calories I burned while dancing.  It was insane!  Then, I began coming up with other ways to work out specific parts of your body while dancing – specifically to this album.  I know that was the beginning of the idea that came to me just weeks later.

Due to my inhibitions and my body image issues, I never went to clubs as much as I love to move my body.  I also tend to sweat a great deal.  I was self conscious about being all gross and sweaty and the club scene, in general, never really called me.  Zumba and other dance classes at gyms had already grown to be pretty popular but I still found those a little bit limiting.  I discovered in my room that I loved to move my body to the rhythms of the music however it moved me.  I wasn’t interested in doing it the “right” way or “wrong” way. I wanted the movements to be as unique as the music.

So…I thought about combining the best of a club scene and a gym scene with this idea.  I won’t share all the details here but I have four pages of notes, including an initial S.W.O.T. (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats).  As I mentioned earlier, there are many dancers in my world and I know this number is only going to increase.  We shall see where this idea goes in the upcoming months.
